CAREER DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAM
DeKalb County Police Athletic League Plus has created a network of businesses, entrepreneurs, private investors, community partners, organizations, and education advancement institutions for the Career Development Program. The businesses provide employment opportunities for DeKalb County's youth while requiring the youth to participate in the DeKalb County Police Athletic League’s Life Skills Curriculum.
The Career Development Program is a catalyst for the youth to earn an income from a legitimate employer while learning how to expand career advancement and life skill development through the workshops.
All participants will have a mandatory workshop to attend twice a month for a four-month period while balancing shifts at work. The workshops will last approximately 1 ½ hrs. and will consist of presentations from representatives from different walks of life.
Workshop topics consist of :
-
Conflict Resolution
-
Job Interview Etiquette and Personal Hygiene
-
Financial Literacy
-
Social Media
-
Coping with Trauma and Gang/Narcotics Awareness
-
Georgia Piedmont Technical College Staff / Tour
-
Crisis Intervention/Georgia Law
The workshops are held in a Georgia Piedmont Technical College classroom. If you don’t attend the workshops, you will not maintain employment.
We encourage parents/guardians to be responsible for the participant’s transportation to the workshops as well as to their jobs. However, we do assist with transportation to and from the workshops if required.
